Gary Scott Holt – My Soul-mate

Gary aka Sean ConneryGary Scott Holt, my soul-mate and best friend died Friday, December 27, 2013. I love Gary with all my heart. Gary gave me the best years of my life and I will always be eternally grateful for his love for me. Gary is at peace now and will forever remain in my heart.

My remembrance of Gary for his memorial service:

I want to thank each of you for coming today to help us honor Gary’s memory. The outpouring of love, friendship, prayers and sympathy extended to us has been a true comfort. It is very heartwarming to see how many lives Gary touched. We are blessed to have you with us today.

I asked Reverend Moore to officiate today. He and Gary served together in the Georgia State Defense Force, and he married Gary and I. He wears the GA State Defense Force uniform today in honor of the time Gary served. It means a lot to me that he was able to help us today give honor to Gary.

Gary is my soul-mate and I love him with all my heart. He gave me the best years of my life and I am eternally cowboycowgirlgrateful for his love. It is my privilege to be his wife.

Some of my most special memories with him were shared in laughter. We sometimes laughed so hard we had tears run down our faces. We had both tears and laughter in our wedding and they are precious memories for me. The first time I saw him he was wearing his cowboy hat and boots. As a Texas gal, I have to tell you he made a mighty, fine Yankee Cowboy. He even learned how to say dawlin’ with a twang.

Gary loved family above all else in this world. His daughters were the light in his life. He wrote about his daughter’s on March 11, 2012 and I want to share his words with you.

Sue works for AT&T as a Human Factors Engineer. Sue’s affinity for Art, Graphic Design and Computers, along with her college degrees and love for her work has catapulted her to a high level of success in her chosen career. I could not possibly be more happy or proud of her and love her with all of my heart.

Gary and Sue and Kerri ThanksgivingYesterday, I found out that another love of my life, my daughter Kerri, has just been accepted to an RN program in Kansas. Currently, she works two jobs, takes care of her three boys and is pursuing yet another degree, all at the same time. She currently has EMT and CNA certifications. I could not be more proud of Kerri and of course, love her with all of my heart as well.Gary Me and Morgan Adoption Day - Copy

Lastly, my daughter Morgan, who just graduated High School, is working on her CNA certification and also wants to enter an RN program to be a nurse. For someone so young to know where she is going and what she wants out of life, I could not be more proud of her as well. She is extremely intelligent and does extremely well in all courses that she pursues. And of course, I love her with all of my heart too.

I am a very lucky man to have been blessed with Kerri, Sue and Morgan. I could not ask for more caring and wonderful children.

Although we have changes since this was written it still represents all the love and pride Gary had for his girls.

Gary Connie and Kerri's BoysI asked his grandsons Luke, Jonathon, Kenny and Perry to tell me one thing they loved most about their Grampa.

Kenny said watching moves with him;

Luke said his laugh;Luke and Grampa Oct 2008

Jonathon said his smile;

Perry said, as only Perry can say…I like the guy he was…he never got mad when you did something wrong or broke things.

The girls shared what they loved best about their Dad –

Morgan said their talks;

Kerri said his hugs;

Sue said his unconditional love.

Those few words sum up the man and tell his story –

Gary shared his smiles willingly;

He loved to live life through laughter;

He had a very easy going personality;

He always had time to talk and listen to those he cared about;

He was very affectionate;

He loved spending time with his family, sharing special moments and making memories.

I found a poem I think Gary would like to be read to his family today.

A Letter From Heaven

When tomorrow starts without me,

and I’m not here to see,

If the sun should rise and find your

eyes, filled with tears for me.

 I wish so much you wouldn’t cry,

the way you did today,

While thinking of the many things,

we didn’t get to say.

I know how much you love me,

as much as I love you,

And each time you think of me,

I know you’ll miss me too.

When tomorrow starts without me,

don’t think we’re far apart,

for every time you think of me,

I’m right there in your heart.

Kerri, Sue and Morgan…Dad loves you unconditionally. That hasn’t stopped and never will.

I found some words I want to share with you that represent how Gary felt about his extended family.

Family isn’t always blood.

It’s the people in your life who want you in theirs;

the ones who accept you for who you are.

The ones who would do anything to see you smile and who love you no matter what.

Those of you who knew and loved Gary are his family…Each of you have special memories with Gary. You know him as Dad, Grampa, Uncle, Brother and friend. I ask you to reach past your grief today and grab those memories and hold them close. I ask you choose to celebrate his life, his achievements, his inspiration, his love, his strength.

He was strong – in love for family and God, in conviction of his beliefs, his love for his country and our freedom…hold on to those memories and celebrate his life. He balldeserves to be celebrated for all that he gave us.

His commitment to our country, our freedom and our liberty was an inspiration to all that knew him. His hope was to help pave the way for a better America for his children and grandsons. He was a true hero and I am extremely proud of his service to our country. He used his many talents and gifts to work tirelessly to help in the political arena for the hope of a better tomorrow. He was a true warrior!

On November 7, 2012 he wrote:

 The bottom line: I am an Army Veteran and I love this country and always will. I took an oath to defend this country and the Constitution. We are the greatest people on earth.

Our vote does not mean that we sit back and let the politicians take over. We need to let the government know how we feel as often as possible. Technology today allows us to do that.

I am proud to be an American and always will be.

I have never known a finer man than Gary. He wasn’t perfect, but none of us are. I ache with the loss of my best friend but I know Gary is at rest now.

The Bible says in John 11:25

 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection and the life; he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.

 Gary is in heaven now. No more pain, no sorrow, no more problems of the world, no failing health…he has been restored and made new in God’s love and grace. He is full of happiness, joy and peace. Of this I have no doubt.

One of Gary’s acting friends said, “Heaven now has a new shining star.” I like that.

Gary is with each one of us through his strong love for us all. We will forever remain connected to him through that love. He leaves a legacy of true valor, strong character, unsurpassed compassion for his fellow man and unconditional love for his family. We are blessed to have known him.

I want to leave you with these words.

Those we love remain with us, for love itself lives on, and cherished memories never fade, because a loved one’s gone. Those we love can never be, more that a thought apart. For as long there is a memory, they’ll live on in our hearts.

Gary, I love you. Rest in peace now. God has you in His keeping; I have you in my heart. You are forever my hero.
