Commit To God

There is a saying, “God holds us responsible, not for what we have, but for what we could have; not for what we are, but for what we might be.” God expects a commitment from us to follow Him. We should be committing our whole lives to God and seeking our happiness in God – in his being, his perfections, his friendship, his love. People always get into trouble when they think they can handle their lives without God. If you’re focused on Him first and have put Him first in your life, then the desires in your heart also come from Him. That is right, God places the right kind of desires in our heart when He comes into our lives.

Psalm 37:4-5

Psalm 37:4-5 tells us, “Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.”

The Hebrew word “Delight” means “to be happy about”. God never intended that we do as we please, but as He Pleases. All of life’s instructions are in the Bible and we must follow God’s Word. We should find delight in wherever God leads us, even if it is not a very good place. The way we handle what comes our way and the way we honor God, determines how He will give us His promises. Look at what he promises us…

“he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.”

Wow, God is Awesome, isn’t he? With our commitment to follow God’s word in our lives and when we believe in Him, God promises He will come through for us. God makes a promise – faith believes it, hope anticipates it, patience quietly awaits it. Remember, there are a thousand ways to pleasing God, but not one works without faith. God wants us to believe in Him for all things which He promises in His word.
